Digital youth work as the key

Finding the way to young people together

Young people are growing up in a time of constant crises, of which corona and the war in Ukraine are just two examples. As children and young people, they have suffered particularly from forced isolation and at the same time have grown up with digital offers at school and in their free time. Many have not found their way back to traditional youth work activities and often spend their time alone in virtual spaces. This is precisely where the Strengths Sieve comes in: As an online tool, it reaches them where they are anyway. In many cases, digital services are now the only way to reach young people.

What is the starch sieve?

The strengths screen encourages young people to discover their own abilities. Based on IKIGAI (“What are you good at? What do you love? What is needed? What is paid for?”), it guides them through structured questions and reflection. Unlike tests, it encourages individual formulations, resulting in new perspectives and more self-confidence. Potentials become clear, goals visible – a solid basis for professional orientation.

Recognizing strengths – shaping the future

Develop your own talents online with the strengths screen

The strengths screen helps young people to discover their own abilities using structured questions. Available digitally, it visualizes strengths and offers individual evaluations.

The technical background

The strengths screener is available as a web application on both laptops and smartphones. A structured question process guides participants to enter their answers. ChatGPT is integrated via an application programming interface (API) to analyse the input, visualize strengths and generate further questions. A special logic ensures that only questions are asked and no ready-made answers are provided. All data is stored in a database and processed in a keyword cloud. Through this coaching dialog, the participants formulate their own answers. The strengths identified can then be evaluated in various reports and used long-term on a personal profile page.

Why not simply use ChatGPT?

Although a simple conversation with ChatGPT offers many possibilities, it is not sufficient to map the clearly structured coaching process of the strengths screen. We need a specialized application that specifically controls the chat process and ensures that only the right questions are asked – without prefabricated answers. This is the only way we can ensure that young people really formulate their own strengths instead of being guided by general advice or random answers. In addition, tailor-made software enables data protection-compliant handling of the entries, continuous storage and evaluation of the results as well as individual user profiles. Personal data such as name, age and place of residence, which are optionally entered, are not passed on to ChatGPT, but only processed in the web application and added to the reports.

Security measures

All data is protected by encryption (SSL/TLS) and stored in a shielded environment (firewall). A carefully configured user management system regulates access and requires strong passwords. Regular updates (security patches) close known vulnerabilities. A multi-level role model (Role-Based Access Control) ensures that only authorized coaches have access to the answers. Only the necessary data is stored and processed strictly in accordance with applicable data protection guidelines (e.g. GDPR). Users also have the option to export or delete their personal information at any time. Personal data such as name, age, place of residence, which are optionally entered, are not passed on to ChatGPT, but only processed in the web application and added to the reports. This ensures that all data remains secure and protected from unauthorized access.

International and multilingual

We will offer the starch sieve digitally in several languages, including German, English and Albanian.

How does the digital starch sieve work?

In digital form, the strengths screen can be used anytime and anywhere. Young people create a profile online, answer questions at their own pace and save their answers permanently. This creates a personal process that allows breaks and clearly displays results. An integrated keyword cloud visualizes strengths, and coaches have the option of taking a look. Various reports are then available for individual evaluation – right through to the finished application letter!
